"PET PALS OF TEXAS" PROGRAM

WHAT Assists those with terminal illness or disability to take care of their pets by providing things such as walking dogs to vet visits and arranging pet adoptions if an owner is hospitalized or passes away.
WHYTo help improve the quality of life of the terminally ill and disabled, by providing support that allows them to keep their own pets.

Program Description

"Pet Pals of Texas" provides in-home pet care, food, and veterinary support to companion and service animals of the terminally ill and disabled so that they are able to live together in their home.

Pet Pals volunteers provide in-home care for pets through regularly scheduled visits to the homes. Some volunteer duties include:

-Walking dogs
-Cleaning litter boxes
-Small animal cage cleaning
-Aquarium maintenance
-Administering medications
-Light grooming
-Transporting pets to groomers or veterinarians
-Placing pet foster care or placement in adoption upon hospitalization, death or institutionalization of the owner


Individuals requesting pet assistance must complete an application and have written documentation of their illness or disability and proof of low-income such as SSI/SSDI,Medicaid, Food Stamps, etc.
