Program Description


"Photograph 2 people (1 woman and 1 man) in each of the 50 United States. All of these 100 people must be at least 100 years old. The completed series will represent over 10,000 years of living."

"People are living longer causing the 65+ population in the United States to increase by 10,000 every day. The 2010 USA census recorded 53,000 centenarians and this fastest growing demographic is expected to exceed 1 million by 2050."

"I want To Live 10,000 Years to be a unique exploration of growing older that inspires deeper connections between younger and older generations."

The To Live 10,000 Years project features photographs and stories of 100 centenarians along with related multimedia content such as interactions between the young and the old.

Danny Goldfield aims to increase awareness of older adults, generate interest in their stories and hopes as a result, that people will get to know them better. The founder of the project also plans to exhibit the completed photographs of older adults at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

A portion of the profits generated from the To Live 10,000 Years project will go to organizations that improve the quality of life for older adults and include: The National Center for Creative Aging, The National Coalition on Mental Health and Aging, AARP Drive to End Hunger, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and Older Adult Technology Services (OATS).
