Seniors are one of the fastest growing segments of the residential remodeling market.
Reasons for elderly home remodelling include increasing a senior's independence, ensuring elderly home safety and ease of mobility.
The "Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS)" Program offers seniors a reliable, trustworthy directory of professionals they can call for a home remodel.
The "Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS)" Program was created in response to an AARP study called, "Fixing to Stay" that found seniors prefer to remain in their homes as they age rather than to move into assisted living.
Certified Aging in Place Specialists are trained in the areas of Marketing and Communication for Aging and Accessibility (CAPS I), Design and Building Solutions for Aging and Accessibility
(CAPS II), and in Business Management for Building Professionals.
"Certified Aging in Place Specialists are required to perform contract work under a code of ethics and are required to keep up with continuing education units from the building industry.
The "National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)" has an annual award, the Homes for Life CAPS Design Award to honor Certified Aging in Place Specialist designers. The award recognizes outstanding aging-in-place remodeling projects.
