Proper weatherization can help homes withstand harsh weather conditions, such as heavy snow, rain, or storms. Older adults are more vulnerable to temperature extremes therefore correct home preparation can help maintain a consistent and comfortable indoor temperature, reducing the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke during summer months and cold-related issues such as hypothermia during winter. Sealing gaps and cracks, can also help keep outdoor pollutants and allergens such as dust, pollen, or smoke from entering the home which is important for older adults who may have respiratory conditions such as asthma or COPD.
