AGE DEMANDS ACTION CAMPAIGN
"Our human rights do not diminish as we get older. We want to achieve a world where we are recognized and respected as individuals, embraced equally, and treated fairly and without discrimination in older age. Securing rights in older age means securing rights for everyone. Protecting our rights in older age now will impact generations to come."
"This campaign training manual takes as its starting point the belief that older people are the best advocates for change on the issues that most affect their lives. It aims to strengthen older people’s knowledge, skills and confidence to grow as campaigners and change their communities and
societies for the better."
On October 1 the UN International Day of Older People, activists of all ages in countries across the world fight ageism by taking part in marches, lobbying their governments on ageism and issues that affect older adults such as pensions, healthcare, housing or access to work.
HelpAge International's Age Demands Action Campaign Program encourages others to stop
age discrimination by signing the Age Demands Action Global Petition and demands a Convention on the Rights of Older People that will ensure that the elderly are included in society as equal citizens with equal rights.
The Age Demands Action Campaign Training Manual outlines how older adults can mobilize locally and globally to fight ageism, speak up for their rights, be their own advocates and lobby decision makers on issues that directly affect them. A step-by-step guide for older adults on how to fight ageism and advocate for equal rights can be found by clicking below.
