Program Description

“The RSPCA will look after those animals so that the owners can go get their care, come back and we reconnect those people with their animals.”
-Steve Coleman- RSPCA NSW Chief Executive Officer.

“RSPCA NSW understands that to an elderly owner, a pet can mean everything. aims to keep pets and their elderly owners happy, healthy and together in their own homes for as long as possible. To do this, we assist elderly pet owners over the age of 65, Indigenous pet owners over the age of 50 and palliative care patients of any age.”

The program provides peace of mind so that seniors will not have to worry that their pet may be taken away while they are away receiving medical treatment or care.

The Pets of Older Persons Program helps seniors with their pets by providing the following support services:

  • In-home visits to help elderly with basic pet care.
  • Pet grooming.
  • Dog walking assistance.

Elderly who would like to adopt a pet for companionship may receive support in doing so through the RSPCA.

The RSPCA aims to defend animal dignity and fights to stop cruelty to animals by providing shelter, education, and medical attention.
