WHATThe Lawn Academy provides free lawn care and landscaping help for seniors, veterans, and people with special needs.
WHYTo provide much needed free lawn maintenance for older adults who are unable to care for their yards and an opportunity for black youth in the Detroit area to participate in a summer college immersion credit and leadership program.

Program Description

“Since starting The Lawn Academy there are now more than eighty teenagers Miller takes out with mowers interacting with seniors. It’s so successful the city heard about the program and added it to the mayor’s summer jobs program.”

The Lawn Academy provides the elderly, veterans and those with special needs free lawn care and landscaping help.

Black youth in the Detroit area help the elderly with free yard clean up and in return are provided with leadership skills, training, and mentoring.

Youth participating in the Lawn Academy have the opportunity to participate in community service projects for credit in a summer college immersion program.

Volunteer youth also plant rose bushes in the yards of elderly to beautify homes and the community and provide seniors with free meal and care package deliveries.
