“Shelter from the elements is a basic human need along with nourishing food, drinkable water, and a safe place to sleep. One Warm Coat believes in each person’s right to protection from the cold and is committed to sharing warmth, without discrimination, one coat at a time.”

“One Warm Coat has worked with volunteers and sponsors to hold more than 40,000 coat drives, collecting nearly 7 million coats which have been distributed to people in need through a network of more than 1,000 nonprofit partners across all 50 states.”

Individuals and organizations can help keep the elderly and others warm during the winter months by volunteering to donate free coats, hold coat drives or make financial donations.

One Warm Coat works with organizations such as The Weather Channel, Eddie Bauer and J. Crew to increase awareness of the need for warm winter coat donations across the USA.

Individuals and organizations can volunteer to help the elderly and others in the following ways:

A traditional coat drive – collecting and sorting winter coats at an in-person coat drive. Coats are delivered to a One Warm Coat partner. Volunteers may choose to host a coat drive in honor of a special occasion such as a Service Project, Scout Activity, Block Party, Back to School, Birthday, Anniversary, Grand Opening or another event.

Virtual Coat Drive - allows individuals or organizations to collect funds online through a personalized coat drive web page.

A coat drive can be held by:

  • Businesses
  • Companies
  • Schools
  • Youth Groups
  • Other Groups

Step-by-step promotional and marketing tools such as social media posts, banners and graphics, a website, along with posters, flyers, stickers, and email messages are available to volunteers to set up their own coat drive. Information on how to collect, sort, and deliver coats is also provided.

Coat drives are best held before the winter months such as summer or fall to allow enough time for supplies to reach those in need. One Warm Coat Day is the official kick off day for Coat Drive Season and is held annually on October 7.

The Crisis Coat Fund allows for those in immediate need to receive a coat quickly through an emergency request.
