MEMORABLE PETS - PETS 2 PEOPLE PROGRAM
Founders - Bettina Dickson Rusher, Frances Dickson. Available in the USA, Canada, Ireland, UK, Australia and New Zealand through online ordering.
Donors of stuffed animals (dogs or cats) will receive an email from the Memorable Pets organization with information about how their donation was able to help an individual with Alzheimer's in a dementia care facility or nursing home.
Memorable Pets are matched based on past pets the individuals with Alzheimer's may have had or personal preference for a particular type of pets so that a better connection may be formed. As language and cognitive skills are reduced, the act of care taking for even a stuffed animal can create feelings of independence, responsibility, bonding and purpose for those with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia.
Memorable pets have also proved to have a therapeutic calming effect and can help with distracting from unpleasant feelings or events. The social interaction that stuffed animals provide to those with Alzheimer's can be extremely beneficial.
