Program Description
“Grants can be used to cover essential expenses such as purchasing a new fridge, paying unexpected bills, food, clothing, or covering gas and electricity costs.”
“Many of the older people we support are lonely or isolated and can’t afford just a few hundred pounds for essentials like food, heating, disability aids, home repairs and even funeral costs for loved ones. Our grants of up to £400, address the key, urgent needs of older people…”

Free grants for older people may include help obtaining the following:
- Home Repairs
- Home Modifications and Adaptations
- Insulation
- Ovens
- Heating and Utility Bills
- Washing Machines
- Essential items such as food, toiletries and clothing
- Car Repairs
- Funeral Costs for a loved one
- Mobility Scooters
Financial assistance grants are managed through referral agents who submit a grant application on the older person’s behalf. Referral agencies include community centers, religious centers, career centers, housing associations, charities and other organizations.
Digital connectivity grants are also available to provide older people free access to technology, mobile phones, laptops and other digital devices aimed at fighting social isolation and loneliness in elderly.
Friends of the Elderly’s Winter Appeal encourages people to help the elderly through donations which will help buy food, warm clothes, pay for heating and lighting and fund home repairs and modifications.
