WHATProvides technological assistance to elderly or those with disabilities in order to help them live more comfortably and complete tasks of daily living.

Program Description


"...the use of assistive devices has increased dramatically over the past decade. More people use assistive technology to compensate for mobility impairments than any other general type of impairment. Other assistive devices in wide use are hearing aids and back braces. Regardless of the type of assistive device, usage increases with age."

The Assistive Technology for Independent Living Program provides technology for:

  • Home modifications for safety - ramps,  hand rails, grab bars, sensor lights.
  • Durable medical equipment.
  • Vehicle modifications - adjustable seats, steering wheels and mirrors.
  • Visual aids and Hearing aids – magnification devices, adaptive voice activated remotes and switches.
  • Mobility devices -  wheelchair or wheelchair lift.
  • Personal communication technology – cell phones, large button keyboards and displays.
