Validation techniques can help older adults with dementia to express what they wish to express whether it is verbal or non-verbal communication.
Validation practitioners focus on person-centered eldercare, should be caring, non-judgmental and open to the feelings that are expressed. The idea is that when feelings which have been suppressed for a long period are able to be expressed, people are able to increase communication and may be less likely to withdraw into further stages of disorientation.
