NATIONAL ASIAN PACIFIC CENTER ON AGING'S SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

WHAT Assists limited and non-English speaking Asian and Pacific Islander older workers to gain work experience and overcome barriers by receiving on-the-job training at community based organizations or government agencies. Participants increase job skills allowing them to find full or part-time unsubsidized employment.
WHYTo decrease isolation faced by many immigrant older adults and lead to employment in positions that pay higher than minimum wage.
WHEREThe National Asian Pacific Center.
Senior Community Service Employment (SCSEP) Program.
Program runs across the U.S.A.

Program Description

The Senior Community Service Employment (SCSEP) Program trains seniors 20 hours per week, and they are paid according to Federal, State or local minimum wage, whichever is highest.

A wide variety of community service employment assignments are available for Asian American and Pacific Islander seniors including day-care, childcare, senior centers, public libraries, social service agencies, and government offices.

The hope is that community service training will serve as a bridge for seniors to gain unsubsidized employment opportunities in the future.

The National Asian Pacific Center advocates for and empowers Asian American and Pacific Islanders seniors.

The National Asian Pacific Center on Aging's Community Service Employment Program is part of the National Senior Community Service Employment (SCSEP) Program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.
