Program Description

"The purpose of '100 Days of Happy Older People', a global social media campaign, is to redefine society's negative notions of older persons and to encourage intergenerational exchanges.
We are interested in what, in older persons' lives, makes them happy."

-- 100daysofhappyolderpeople.com

The Happy Older People Campaign is taking place during the 100 days before the United Nations (UN) celebration of the International Day of Older Persons. (IDOP)

Older people from all walks of life are represented. Each week the 100 Days of Happy Older People Campaign focuses on a particular group of the aging population such as:
  • Older LGBT
  • Older Women
  • World We Want For Our Granddaughters
  • World We Want For Our Grandsons
  • Older Refugees
  • Older Celebrities
  • Older Athletes
  • Older Indigenous People
  • Older People of Urban Centers
  • Wisdom Week
  • What do older people want?
  • Favorite Memories

Through social media ( Facebook and Twitter) and the hashtag #happyolderpeople everyone from the general public to celebrities are spreading the word about positive aging and highlighting the contributions of older adults to society.

There is a tremendous response to the positive aging campaign with several posts. Answers to what makes older people happy range from the simple 'taking my dog for a walk' to the inspirational accomplishments of older athletes.
