Program Description


“The United Nations General Assembly, in its resolution 66/127, designated
June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. It represents the one day in the year when the whole world voices its opposition to the abuse and suffering inflicted to some of our older generations.”

“Among the guests are distinguished specialists from around the world, expert representatives from the universities, Human Rights Institutes, and European and global Civil Society organizations and older persons, themselves.”

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is promoted by several organizations worldwide.

The USC Center for Elder Justice has excellent educational and promotional tools such as a World Elder Abuse Awareness Day tool kit, social media guide, graphics, banners, gifs, flyers, brochures, training guides and more.

Information is also provided on how to take action and help prevent elder abuse through engagement, speaking out and involving youth.

The World Elder Abuse Awareness Day convention meets with the aim of:

-Preventing elder abuse in the context of Convention of Human Rights of Older Persons.
-Discussing and sharing possible International solutions to prevent elder abuse, violence, negligence, Ageism, and the discrimination of older adults.

Posters, videos, brochures and presentations can be found on additional websites which support World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. These organizations encourage the public to use elder abuse prevention tools to increase awareness in their own communities.
