Program Description



“Seniors and persons with disabilities who live in their own homes and can take care of themselves often need help with their finances. Without that help, they are frequently taken advantage of by friends, neighbors, and even family members. Friends for Life will serve as the representative payee and fiduciary for those unable to manage their financial matters.”

“Friends for Life serves as legal guardian for the elderly and adults with disabilities whom the courts determine to lack capacity (Definition of incapacity: due to mental and/or physical limitations individuals are unable to care for themselves, make medical decisions, financial decisions or provide for themselves adequate food, clothing and shelter). In some cases, these individuals have outlived family members to provide care, or even in some cases, these individuals have been abandoned by family in nursing homes or other care facilities.”

Friends for Life protects vulnerable older adults and those with disabilities by providing the following:

Money Management – Friends for Life acts as a representative payee and fiduciary for older adults who are unable to manage their own finances including receiving and maintaining benefits on behalf of clients  help with budgeting, paying bills, and more.  The program is important in helping prevent elder financial abuse.

Guardianship - serves as legal guardian for elderly and adults with disabilities whom the courts determine to lack capacity.

Independent Living – help with errands, groceries, transportation to doctors’ appointments, lawn care, household repairs so that the elderly age in place.

Life Skills - to teach those with disabilities how to develop more independence in daily life through small motor skills, communication skills, and cognitive skills training.

Quality of Life for Seniors - to help reduce loneliness and isolation in elderly including, Phone Friends, Friends for Thanksgiving, Gifts for Grannies & Grandpas too, Adopt-A-Grandparent, Birthday Cards, Gift Making Craft, Programs, Bingo at the Adult Day Center, Friendly Visits, Reading to the Blind or Visually Impaired, Music, Art, & Theater, Pen Pals.

Adult Day Care – social activities and outings for older adults.
