Program Description

Organizations wishing to replicate the "Healthy IDEAS (Identifying Depression, Empowering Activities for Seniors)" Program are provided a training toolkit.

The "Healthy IDEAS (Identifying Depression, Empowering Activities for Seniors)" Program includes:

-Screening for symptoms for elderly depression
-Assessment of severity of elderly depression symptoms
-Educating older adults and primary caregivers on the effects of elderly depression
-Referral and follow-up to primary care and mental health service providers


Seniors may show improvement in mental health in the form of:

· Fewer symptoms of elderly depression
· Decreased physical pain
· Better ability to recognize and self-treat symptoms of elderly depression
· Improved well-being through achievement of personal goals

Health Service providers such as hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living may show improvement in the areas of:

· Increased treatment capacity to address elderly depression
· Better communication and stronger partnerships with mental health providers
· Opportunity to deliver a proven program that addresses critical needs of seniors
· Improved staff knowledge of elderly depression and confidence in providing therapy to seniors
